As part of the Australian Health News Research Collaboration, we are running a research project aimed at generating news and commentary in NSW media to support tobacco control policy and practice.
Our objective is to raise public awareness of neglected research findings among the hundreds of unpublicised studies published in specialist journals and other sources by disseminating selected findings to NSW media outlets. A related aim is to increase participation of state and national tobacco control expertise in this increased coverage.
This process involves sending news releases to print, radio and television media. Copies of these releases are below.

The South African National Halaal Authority has issued this poster warning Muslims about possible pigs blood in cigarette filters. See related news coverage here.
Stephen Colbert, host of the Colbert Report on the US Comedy Network, has picked up on the pig's blood in cigarettes story and has given a "reluctant wag of the finger to the tobacco industry". The sketch also features actor Jeff Goldblum.
