    The 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey report shows the proportion of people aged 14 years or older smoking tobacco daily has dropped to 15.1%, down from 16.6% in 2007. The largest falls in daily smoking were among people in their early twenties to mid-forties. Almost 40% of smokers had reduced the amount they smoked in a day in 2010, and 29% had tried unsuccessfully to give up smoking. The proportion of people nominating cost as a factor increased significantly from 35.8% in 2007 to 44.1% in 2010.
