Australian Council on Smoking & Health
The Australian Council on Smoking & Health (ACOSH) was established in NSW in 1967. ACOSH was modelled on the Interagency Council on Smoking and Health established in the United States in 1964 to bring together Government agencies and health interest groups to sponsor conferences, facilitate co-operation, and educate the medical profession and the public about health and smoking.

 
     
 

B.U.G.A.U.P.
Billboard Utilising Graffitists Against Unhealthy Promotions, inaugurated in 1979, is a group of anti-smoking activists, initially led by Arthur Chesterfield-Evans, who turned billboards advertising cigarettes into public health warnings.

 
   
 

National Heart Foundation of Australia
A non-profit health organisation with the purpose to improve the heart health of Australians. The Foundation has a position statement on passive smoking and a Tobacco Control Policy.

 
 
 

NSW Cancer Council
Established in 1955 by an Act of Parliament, the NSW Cancer Council is the leading cancer charity in New South Wales. The Council has a position statement on tobacco control. The Council's website also includes information concerning Smoking and Tobacco Related Issues and has a Smoking and Tobacco Resources hub. In October 2002, the Council released a five point plan "Investing in life - An Agenda for Cancer Control" that includes reducing the use of tobacco. Click here to review the National Cancer Prevention Policy 2004-2006 issued by The Cancer Council Australia in October 2004. The policy document outlines steps to be taken in reducing the impact of cancer. Section one covers preventable risks and includes a chapter on tobacco.

 
     
 

Non Smokers' Movement of Australia
A non-profit body founded in 1977 "protecting the rights of the non-smoking majority from tobacco smoke and from the tobacco industry's propaganda".

 
   
 

OxyGen
Jointly produced by the South Australian Smoking and Health Project, Smarter than Smoking Project (WA) and Quit Victoria, this site provides valuable information on the impact of tobacco. There are downloadable information resources for teachers to support tobacco prevention in schools.

 
     
 

Quit SA
Quit SA is a joint initiative of the Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia and the National Heart Foundation (SA Branch) and is funded by the Department of Human Services.

 
   
 

Quit Victoria
Quit is a program based within the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria committed to reducing the harmful effects of smoking in Victoria.

 
   
 

Smoke Free Zone
A campaign to reduce children's exposure to tobacco smoke in homes and cars. The ETS and Children Project is a partnership of government and four non-government organisations: NSW Health, NSW Cancer Council, SIDS and Kids, Asthma NSW and the Heart Foundation.

VicHealth Centre for Tobacco Control
The VCTC receives core funding from VicHealth and is a consortium of the Cancer Control Research Institute of the Anti-Cancer Council Victoria, the University of Melbourne's Centre for Public Policy, and Monash University's Institute of Public Health and Health Services Research.
